Rewiring Trauma through Kink

Description:

This course will explore how BDSM and Kink are not only forms of sexual expression, but can creative a space for healing. Exploring how kink and trauma can work together, participants gain knowledge around the history of kink and mental health. They also learn about the neurobiology of trauma and how kink can be used as a tool for trauma healing. Lastly, participants learn more about the current research around kink and trauma, while exploring their own bias on the topic.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the effect trauma has on the mind, body, and sex.

  • Discuss different types of BDSM practice, and kink interests. 

  • Understand differences between healthy and abusive practices in BDSM/kink.

  • Discuss ways kink can be supportive to those with a trauma history. 

Presenter Biography:

Stephanie Iszory (she/her) is a Marriage and Family therapist who runs her own private practice specializing in working with adults and couples. She has experience in supporting queer, kink, and non-monogamous communities and is currently finishing a year-long Kink informed Certification Program with the Sexual Health Alliance. Stephanie earned her M.S. in Family Therapy at Friends University.
